What happens when you apply car wax to a ceramic-coated surface?

Nothing happens. The easy answer is yes, you can. You could lay down the ceramic-based protectant, let it cure, and then apply wax. However, we rarely suggest it. It’s a bit redundant, and the idea here is to reduce the time and effort it takes to protect your investment. Plus, ceramic-based protectants are so slick that once they cure, the wax will have trouble adhering to the surface.

How to maintain a ceramic coating without wax?

Do not wash your car for the first week after the ceramic coating.

The ceramic layer has just been coated. It needs enough time to cure completely. If rain or tap water gets on the ceramic coated surface, it will cause the bond between the ceramic layer and the original paint to break. From there, the ceramic coating will become meaningless.

Use pH-neutral shampoo.

It would be best if you used pH-neutral soaps. Using soaps with too high of a detergent will make the ceramic layer degrade and easily peel fade away.

Use separate tools.

It would help if you did not use the same cleaning tools for all exterior vehicle parts during the washing process, especially for low areas such as wheels and rims. It will cause cross-contamination, which can make the entire vehicle surface dirtier. Therefore, you should use separate cleaning tools for wheels and paint.

Which is a better choice wax or ceramic coating?

Both methods of waxing and ceramic coating, have pros and cons. Here are some factors you can consider when deciding between either wax or ceramic coating:

  • Price
  • Quality
  • Vehicle condition
  • How long do you want the protection to last?

Overall, we would recommend using ceramic instead of wax. Because while ceramic coating may cost more than wax, you will get a higher quality in the long run, also it lasts from 2 to 5 years, even up to ten years on the high end coatings. You can spend money on something completely worth it rather than spending it in small increments.

Is ceramic coating too expensive?

With so many ceramic coating brands on the market, determining how much you should pay might be difficult. In general, prices vary depending on the product’s brand. A high-quality ceramic coating from a well-known brand, for example, maybe more expensive than a lower-quality ceramic coating from a lesser-known brand. The high-quality ceramic coating, however, will most likely last longer and provide superior protection for your vehicle. Because of this, the higher cost at first may be worth it in the long run.
